On March 10, 2025, the Natural Resource Women Platform (NRWP) hosted a webinar marking International Women’s Day under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress in Natural Resource Governance.” The event brought together 45 participants, including women leaders, policymakers, and activists from several African countries and NGOs. Discussions focused on women’s critical but underrecognized role in natural resource governance and the barriers they face, such as cultural norms, financial exclusion, and weak legal enforcement. Key recommendations included strengthening women’s networks, investing in education and financial empowerment, advocating gender-inclusive policies, and enhancing women’s leadership through technology and representation. NRWP urged immediate action to support women-led initiatives and ensure women are included in all resource governance decisions.
